On November 11, an open lecture titled "A Psychologist's Perspective on Late Adulthood. What and How Changes in the Psyche?" by clinical psychologist Irina Fedorovna Roshchina was held at the "Silver Age" lecture series, jointly organized by the N.A. Nekrasov Library and Moscow State University of Psychology and Education (MSUPE).

During the meeting, the age ranges of late adulthood, the differences between chronological, biological, and psychological age, as well as the "continuum" from normal aging to cognitive impairment were sequentially examined. A separate segment was dedicated to factors that support cognitive health (physical and intellectual activity, social inclusion, emotional self-regulation) and risk factors that are important to address specifically.

A particular emphasis in the lecture was placed on the concept of cognitive reserve. According to Irina Fedorovna, prolonged education, rich linguistic experience, proficiency in several languages, and constant engagement in intellectually demanding activities help the brain compensate for age-related changes and maintain mental clarity and interest in life longer.

The practical part included recommendations for compensating for age-related changes in memory, attention, and the pace of mental activity, aimed at preserving an active and independent life in late adulthood. The lecturer specifically discussed what exactly can be done in daily life and how to do it, in order to slow age-related changes and support cognitive productivity.

The lecture sparked keen interest among the listeners, and many questions were asked about how to understand changes in behavior and cognitive functions during aging and whom to turn to for help.

The recording of the lecture will be available approximately in December 2025 on the social media pages and the website of the Nekrasov Library.

The "Silver Age" lecture series is a platform for an open conversation about age and longevity.
