The MSUPE "Rublevo" Student Center will host an exhibition of traditional Russian costumes from the Odnodvortsy (Single-Homesteader) estate from December 20 to 26.

The Odnodvortsy were a unique social estate in the Russian Tsardom and the Russian Empire. They emerged during the reign of Vasily III: they were the sons of boyars (nobles) sent to the southern frontier (the Great Defensive Line) to live in "single homesteads" without serfs. In the 17th century, simpler service people (gunners, streltsy, cossacks) along the Belgorod Defensive Line also began transitioning into this estate. They were pioneers, city-builders, and loyal defenders of the Russian land. This is how the Odnodvortsy estate, with its distinct culture and customs, came into being. Their descendants still live in the territories of modern Tula, Oryol, Lipetsk, Ryazan, Belgorod, Voronezh, Tambov, Kursk, and Penza regions. Descendants also live in Siberia!

A previous iteration of this exhibition was held at the MSUPE library on Sretenka, featuring interactive elements like a "slow dressing" demonstration and a fashion show where guests could participate. (Watch the video).

Now, this fascinating collection comes to the "Rublevo" Student Center. We invite all students and staff to visit during the exhibition dates.

The opening on December 20 will feature a guided lecture-tour by ethnographer Natalia Skavytina.

The event is held as part of the project "Odnodvortsy: Seven Russian Stories," with the support of the Presidential Grants Foundation.
