On January 20, fourth-year students from the Faculty of Clinical and Special Psychology at MSUPE, future special education teachers (defectologists), visited one of Moscow's special (correctional) schools.

The practical session, held within the discipline "Technologies of Supplementary Education for Children with Disabilities," aimed to introduce students to the organisation of supplementary education classes for children with intellectual disabilities.

The school's teachers demonstrated classes for our students in the following clubs:

  • "Paper Sculpture" (L.N. Zotova)
  • "Drawing with a 3D Pen" (S.A. Surkov)
  • "Active Games" (V.V. Panasyuk)

The school's methodologist, I.V. Karelina, spoke about the supplementary education directions offered at the school for students with intellectual disabilities and autism spectrum disorders. She explained how student interest and motivation are sustained during classes, and how children's preferences and parents' requests are analysed to open new studios and sections.

Before the visit, the MSUPE students prepared a series of questions, which they were able to discuss during the conversation with the school's teachers and methodologists. The questions included:

  • Which supplementary education direction is most popular among parents and children?
  • What corrective and developmental tasks are addressed through supplementary education for children with intellectual disabilities?
  • How do supplementary education teachers account for the individual developmental characteristics of children with intellectual disabilities?

We thank the administration and teachers of Special (Correctional) General Education Boarding School No. 52 for the opportunity to visit classes and engage in professional dialogue.
