Experts from the best.edu.ru portal have presented a new 2026 study, "Universities of the Post-Soviet Space in Global Subject Rankings", analyzing the international competitiveness of universities based on subject rankings. The analysis has been expanded with two new subject rankings – RUR and SCImago.

MSUPE entered the first league in the subject areas "Psychological Sciences" and "Education Sciences".

Global subject rankings have become a key tool for comparing heterogeneous educational systems, as they evaluate universities in specific fields of study. The current analysis is based on the international OECD classification, which includes 39 subject areas. Essentially, the study examines 39 separate rankings that include programs from universities in post-Soviet countries and BRICS nations.

As a result of adapting subject areas, programs represented in the rankings were assigned grades A–G. The final ranking was formed as a ranked list, divided into five leagues. A university's placement in a particular league means that in at least one of the selected rankings, it made it into a program corresponding to a certain letter grade.

In 2026, 194 Russian universities were included in the ranking.
