MSUPE Launches New Programs for Older Adults
In August, the Scientific and Practical Center for Gerontopsychology at Moscow State University of Psychology and Education (MSUPE) began offering practical sessions for older adults across three new programmes: the "Neighborhood Club", art therapy sessions "Art Kaleidoscope: Creativity as a Resource", and the psychological lecture series "Silver Age 2.0". These Centre programmes are aimed at maintaining cognitive health and psychological well-being in older adults, as well as organising meaningful and beneficial leisure activities for the older generation.
On August 14, the first meeting of the Neighbourhood Club took place. Meetings will be held every second Friday of the month at the Centre. Participants were invited to learn the board game UNO, which sparked great interest among all attendees. In a friendly atmosphere, they got to know each other, shared memories of games they enjoyed, debated, and competed. It is worth noting that board games, at any age, are an effective way to train memory, attention, and cognitive flexibility.
On August 17, the first session of the "Art Kaleidoscope" series was held. The session took place in a free format. Participants independently chose their means of self-expression – through lines, shapes, and colours. The programme leader, Nadezhda Tsybulina, a master's student in the MSUPE programme "Practical Psychology in the Social Sphere and Education," noted that "such sessions bring a sense of peace and provide a comprehensive positive effect – they help reduce anxiety, develop precision of movement, and maintain mental sharpness." The series sessions will be held twice a week for two months.
On August 24, the psychological lecture series Silver Age 2.0 will begin, with weekly sessions. The programme will address issues of maintaining emotional balance, building relationships with children and grandchildren, and understanding one's own emotional state in later life.
We invite older adults to participate in the Centre's programmes. If you have older relatives or acquaintances, please share this information with them. Sign up your parents, grandparents, and loved ones for the sessions. Come and see for yourself how the meetings are conducted and help your loved ones spend their time productively.
Participation in all three programmes is free.
Information about the sessions is available on the MSUPE Center for Gerontopsychology page.
