On August 5-7, the International Scientific Conference "Interaction. Integration. Inclusion: From Reflection to Action" will be held online.
As part of the conference, on August 7 at 12:20 AM, a roundtable discussion "Subjective Well-being and Inclusion: Nonlinear Connections and Non-obvious Opportunities" will take place.
Moderators:
- Sergey Gennadievich Kosaretsky (Ph.D. in Psychology, Vice-Rector for Research at MSUPE, Leading Researcher at the ISR Laboratory)
- Ivan Yuryevich Ivanov (Ph.D. in Education Sciences, Director of the Center for General and Additional Education at the Institute of Education, HSE University)
Working language - Russian
The roundtable will focus on the complex relationships between inclusion and subjective well-being (SWB) in modern school education. While originally aimed at overcoming discrimination and ensuring equality, does inclusion actually improve SWB for children with special educational needs (SEN), or might it create risks for the SWB of various groups of educational participants? On the other hand, does caring for SWB imply creating an inclusive educational environment, or might the pursuit of well-being create barriers and stimulate exclusion?
Based on empirical data, the discussion will highlight the characteristics of subjective well-being among students with and without SEN in inclusive environments, analyzing risks and opportunities for SWB in interactions between groups of children with different needs. The impact of inclusion on teachers and parents, whose SWB often remains overlooked, will also be examined. Within the discussion, researchers and practitioners will explore possibilities for harmonizing the goals of inclusion and ensuring SWB to create a genuinely friendly environment, as well as alternative ways to enhance the SWB of students with SEN.
