The new issue of the journal "Counseling Psychology and Psychotherapy" (No. 3/2025) opens with two theoretical and methodological articles dedicated to current problems of modern society.
The first article examines the problem of children's grief. In her review, A.A. Bakanova cites data from a Scottish study that highlights the relevance of this problem: more than half of children under the age of 10 experience the loss of a loved one, which increases the risk of emotional maladjustment. The author focuses on both risk factors and resources for coping with grief (primarily in the child's immediate social environment), while emphasizing the importance of a systemic approach in the practice of providing psychological assistance to bereaved children.
The second article is devoted to internet addiction in children and adolescents. The analysis of longitudinal studies conducted by Ya.V. Malygin and co-authors shows that external social factors – family, peers, school situation, etc. – contribute weakly to the spontaneous remission of internet addiction. Only internal factors – self-esteem and symptoms of depression – were significant. This aligns well with data from domestic authors previously published in our journals, which demonstrated the protective role of a subjective position in learning activities and high self-efficacy.
In addition to the theoretical and methodological articles, the issue features five empirical studies. These include research on the problems and prospects of multicultural counseling in modern Russia (Pavlova O.S., Chibisova M.Yu.), risk factors and protective factors for suicidal behavior (Govorov S.A. et al.), features of body image perception in adolescent girls (Bulygina M.V., Novitskaya S.L.), the effectiveness of the exposure method in treating childhood anxiety (Eremeeva V.A. et al.), and finally, factors of codependent behavior in women (Kolenova A.S. et al.).
Concluding the issue is an article dedicated to the analysis of a case of prolonged grief in a mother: E.V. Bityutskaya conducts a phenomenological analysis of the cyclical nature of maternal grief, which poses to helping professionals the task of finding mechanisms to interrupt this cycle.
The next issue of the journal will be dedicated to the proceedings of the Second Zeigarnik Readings – an international conference on clinical psychology, which will take place in November 2025 and, we hope, will become a platform for exchanging experience and opinions on the most pressing and critical issues in clinical psychology and psychotherapy.
All articles of the issue are available in open access on the Portal of Psychological Publications PsyJournals.ru.
