On February 19, international students of MSUPE celebrated the ancient Russian holiday – Maslenitsa – in a bright and heartfelt manner. Staff from the Department of International Relations prepared an informative presentation for the guests about the history, ancient customs, and how these traditions have been preserved in modern Russia.

But the international students also eagerly shared stories about their own traditions of celebrating spring. Particularly insightful presentations were given by students Ali Nadou and Mahraiel Awad, who prepared a colorful presentation on how the arrival of spring is celebrated in Egypt. The account of dishes, customs, accompanied by listening to a traditional Egyptian song dedicated to this time of year, was especially interesting.

The celebration continued just as vibrantly and joyfully: the students enthusiastically danced in circles, eagerly played the ancient Russian game "Rucheek" (The Brook) , and even held a real weight-lifting tournament. The audience cheered loudly for the participants, and the strongest competitors turned out to be Ilyassou Alou Hamzat, Hassan Abakar Mahamat Zen, and Mohamat Ismael Ibrahim.

The event concluded with a traditional tea party with blinis (pancakes) . The international students truly appreciated the Russian pancakes, each choosing their favorite filling.

All participants were extremely pleased with the Maslenitsa celebration and expressed a desire to learn more about Russian culture and traditions.
