We invite you to a public lecture "Invective: verbal aggression or low culture of speech?" on March 17 at 3 p.m.

Have you ever encountered such cases in your life when your quite decent acquaintance suddenly used a "strong word" in his/her heart, which in no way corresponds to his/her reputation as an intellectual, polymath, maybe just a well-mannered person? Or maybe someone notices that people are no longer shy about using swear words in public places? And what do you exclaim when you suddenly slip and fall on the asphalt?

Surprisingly, a whole scientific field in philology deals with the use of profanity, and it is also being studied in the psychological anthropology of stress! In our lecture, we will try to understand – from the point of view of both philology and psychology – why we, educated people, still use the so-called invective vocabulary, which in ancient Russian was very eloquently called "evil shameless barking." We will try to reflect.
