On February 2, at 10:00 a.m., we invite you to a public lecture titled "Digital Fatigue: Myth or Reality?"

The term "digital fatigue," like the concept of information overload, traces back to the works of American sociologist Alvin Toffler, who, as early as the 20th century in his book "Future Shock," warned about the onset of an era of information overload.

A surge of interest in this topic occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic, when millions of people shifted to remote work and online learning. Research indicated that many educators and students experienced digital exhaustion.

Surveys conducted in Russia also confirmed the prevalence of this phenomenon. For instance, according to data from one financial service in 2020, 73% of Russians reported manifestations of digital fatigue. Among the cited causes were prolonged use of digital devices, low-quality online content, a large number of work-related online meetings, and the rapid emergence of new technologies requiring adaptation.

But can we speak of digital fatigue as a genuinely existing psychological and physical state arising from prolonged interaction with digital technologies? Or is it simply a myth? We will attempt to answer these and other questions during our lecture.

Speaker:

  • Ekaterina Eduardovna Boikina, Candidate of Psychological Sciences, Associate Professor at the Department of Legal Psychology and Law, Faculty of Legal Psychology, MSUPE
