Dream, Dreaming, and Planning Personal Prospects in Adolescence – at a Public Lecture on September 23
We invite you on September 23 at 11:30 AM to a public lecture "Dream and the Process of Dreaming in Adolescents. Connection with Anxiety and Depression".
In adolescence, dream and dreaming become among the central events of the adolescent's inner world, which aligns well with the developmental tasks of this period: mastering adult roles, expanding time perspective, creating an image of the future and oneself within it, planning personal and professional prospects, and the life path as a whole. Thoughts and images born of a dream often accompany the adolescent's external activity and occupy, according to various data, up to half of their waking hours. The high prevalence of dreaming and its high subjective significance pose a natural question for researchers about the adaptive functions of dream and dreaming and their role in the regulation of mental activity in adolescence.
Does having a dream make an adolescent happier? Is a dream a motivating force, or does it remain merely an unattainable fantasy? At our lecture, we will discuss the types of dreaming in adolescents (constructive and defensive) and present the results of a study on the connection between the nature of adolescents' dreaming and levels of anxiety and depression.
