"Kochenov Readings": Twenty Years of Scientific Discussion on Psychology and Law Now Available on PsyJournals.ru
The PsyJournals.ru portal has completed the archiving of materials from the All-Russian Conference on Legal Psychology with International Participation "Kochenov Readings. Psychology and Law in Modern Russia."
The first conference was held in 2005 at Moscow State University of Psychology and Education (MSUPE), with the participation of the V.P. Serbsky National Medical Research Center for Psychiatry and Narcology. It was timed to coincide with the 70th anniversary of the birth of Mikhail Mikhailovich Kochenov (1935–1999) , an outstanding Russian clinical and legal psychologist, Doctor of Psychological Sciences, Senior Advisor of Justice, and member of the Pardon Commission under the President of the Russian Federation.
The publication of archival proceedings provides access to materials documenting key stages in the development of Russian legal psychology. Even from the first conference, topics that defined M.M. Kochenov's scientific legacy are presented: the psychology of the offender's personality, mechanisms of criminal behavior, psychological foundations of criminal responsibility, criteria for sanity, psychology of crime victims, and tasks of forensic psychological examination.
Over two decades, the "Kochenov Readings" have become a significant platform for professional dialogue among specialists working at the intersection of psychology, law, forensic examination, education, penitentiary practice, and social assistance. Discussions focus on developing the theoretical foundations of legal psychology, analyzing contemporary social risks, and finding practical solutions for work in complex and crisis situations.
The conference topics cover a wide range of areas: modern approaches to forensic psychological examination of parent-child relationships, training specialists in legal psychology, re-socialization of persons released from prison, prevention of suicidal behavior among minors, development of penitentiary psychology, risks of digital society, psychodiagnostics in law enforcement, and the development of mediation in Russia.
Materials from past conferences are published in a thematic collection.
