RAEX Agency: MSUPE Enters TOP-5 Russian Universities in Psychology and Takes 1st Place Among Universities of the Russian Ministry of Education
The RAEX agency has prepared the annual edition of subject rankings of Russian universities. The lists of best universities in 35 fields have been updated. A total of 167 universities from 45 regions of the country are included in the published lists.
MSUPE continues to hold 1st place among universities subordinate to the Russian Ministry of Education in the "Psychology" ranking and 4th place among all Russian universities.
In the field of "Pedagogical Education (Pedagogy)", MSUPE entered the top three leaders among universities subordinate to the Russian Ministry of Education and took 11th place among all universities in the country.
The subject rankings of Russian universities are based on an assessment of the three missions of universities — educational, scientific, and societal. The rankings answer the question: which universities provide the best educational and scientific training for students in a specific subject area, considering the university's contribution to social development? The rankings rely solely on objective indicators and do not use the results of expert surveys.
In assessing the first — educational — mission of universities, the following are evaluated: the quality of training of enrolled applicants, the university's staffing levels, the competitiveness of its master's programs, the volume of funding, the results of students' participation in Russian student olympiads, and the number of massive open online courses.
The indicators in the "Science" group include bibliometric indicators (publications and their citations) according to the Web of Science and RSCI (Russian Science Citation Index) databases, research income adjusted for scale, the scale of training for highly qualified personnel (doctoral/postgraduate studies), the number of dissertation defenses, and the share of extrabudgetary sources in the total cost of research and development.
When assessing the third — societal — mission of universities, both subject-specific and institutional indicators related to the university as a whole were considered. At the subject level, comparisons were made using indicators measuring the university's contribution to training personnel for the region, the share of students in the field nationwide, the share of students enrolled under targeted admission, and the share of first-year students from other regions. Institutional-level criteria also used in the "Society" group include: the volume of income from additional education programs and the number of students who have completed them, the diversity of knowledge at the university level (the number of programs for which admission is conducted), the university's website audience and number of social media followers, as well as the frequency of university mentions in the media.
