Speech Therapy Students Visit the Russian State Library for the Blind

On September 3, 2026, a group of 4th-year speech therapy students, as part of seminars for the discipline "Workshop: Frontal Forms of Correctional and Developmental Work with Children with Speech Disorders" (instructor — Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Head of the Department of Special (Defectological) Education L.A. Tishina), visited the Russian State Library for the Blind.

This visit provided students with a unique opportunity to go beyond standard lecture halls and immerse themselves in a practical environment where special conditions are created for people with visual impairments. During the excursion, students learned how the library is organised internally and what formats of literature are now available to visually impaired readers.

The students were particularly interested in meeting a practising typhlopedagogue and the demonstration of Braille writing. The museum exhibition, where exhibits could be touched, allowed students to literally "touch" history and understand how people with visual impairments perceive the world around them.

The students shared their impressions:

• "I liked that a practising typhlopedagogue spoke with us today. It was also very interesting to learn about the recording of audio format library books and to visit the studio (from both sides: the sound engineer and the narrator/actor). It was also surprising that the library has modern books".
• "I was amazed by Alexander, who showed us how to write in Braille. I really enjoyed our trip to the library. We learned many new things and were able to examine books for the blind".
• "Thank you for such a dedicated approach to your work! It is clear how much the staff love their field and how enthusiastically they talk about it. They answered all questions in detail and with interest. I will definitely come to this wonderful library again!"
