On September 25, a meeting of students of the Faculty of Extreme Psychology with active civil aviation pilots representing various Russian airlines took place at Moscow State University of Psychology and Education. The meeting was organized by Oleg Nikolaevich Grivko, Advisor to the Rectorate of MSUPE, and Azaliya Maratovna Zinatullina, Associate Professor at the Department of Scientific Foundations of Extreme Psychology, Faculty of Extreme Psychology (moderator).
Dmitry Vladimirovich Deulin, Dean of the Faculty of Extreme Psychology, and Alexander Vladimirovich Sechko, Deputy Dean for Extracurricular Work, addressed the guests and students with welcoming remarks.
During the meeting, students were able to communicate directly with the pilots and ask their questions. The discussion covered the specifics of the psychological selection and training of pilots, interaction among crew members, work in abnormal and extreme situations, professional workloads, and ways of coping with stress. The guests shared their professional experience and spoke about the psychological and personal qualities necessary for a pilot.
Particular attention was paid to the psychological aspects of professional activity in aviation. Students were interested in the details of passing the Medical Flight Expert Commission (VLEC GA) and psychological selection, the specifics of interaction between the aircraft commander and the co-pilot, and how attitudes toward stressful and abnormal situations change with accumulated experience. The pilots spoke about the importance of self-control, responsibility, coordinated crew work, and readiness to make decisions under high workload.
The meeting allowed students to become acquainted with the practical aspects of the work of civil aviation specialists and better understand the role of psychological preparation in the pilot profession.
The Faculty of Extreme Psychology at MSUPE thanks the civil aviation pilots for the open professional dialogue and substantive answers to students' questions.
