MSUPE Again Included in the Global Ranking "Three University Missions"
On October 23, 2026, at a meeting of the Joint Working Group of the Russian Union of Rectors, the Russian Academy of Sciences, and the Russian Academy of Education on Strategic Academic Leadership, the tenth edition of the Moscow International Ranking "Three University Missions" was presented. It includes 2,000 universities from 111 countries. By representation of universities in the ranking, the United States (261), China (258), and Russia (151) lead.
MSUPE maintained its position in the ranking and became one of four universities subordinate to the Russian Ministry of Education included in "Three University Missions".
Dmitry Grishankov, Head of the Association of Ranking Compilers, Advisor to the President of the Russian Union of Rectors, and Deputy Chairman of the Public Council under the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education, noted that universities of BRICS countries are gradually increasing their presence in the ranking of the world's best universities.
"BRICS universities are steadily closing the gap with universities of Europe and North America. Two years ago, in terms of the specific value of the research budget, universities of the Global South lagged behind the result of universities of the Global North by an average of 17%. In the latest edition of the study, the gap has almost completely disappeared — today the difference is only 3%. Among BRICS countries, India and Brazil made a significant contribution to reducing the gap — the increase in the specific research budget of universities in these states was 12% in both cases", said Dmitry Grishankov.
The Moscow International University Ranking (the "Three University Missions" ranking) is a fundamentally new academic ranking that for the first time evaluates all three key missions of a university: education, science, and interaction with society.
The ranking methodology underwent extensive public discussion, in which more than 100 universities participated. Only objective criteria based on official data (including public reports of universities) and data from authoritative international information providers are used to compile the ranking. Reputation surveys are completely excluded.
