Is There an Effective Remedy for Everyday Anxiety and How to Regain a Sense of Control Over One's Emotions - at a Public Lecture on November 5
We invite you on November 5 at 12:00 PM to a public lecture "Horror Content as a Way to Cope with Anxiety."
At first glance, this seems paradoxical, but millions of people subconsciously use horror content as an effective remedy against everyday anxiety. At our lecture, we will examine this phenomenon from the standpoint of neuroscience and evidence-based psychology, and also discuss why fictional on-screen monsters help us temporarily switch away from real, uncontrollable life problems and regain a sense of control over our emotions. In addition, we will talk about how to choose a film correctly for one's current state and where the line lies between the therapeutic effect of horror content and excessive strain on the psyche.
Speaker:
- Oksana Dmitrievna Gurina, Candidate of Psychological Sciences, Associate Professor at the Department of Legal Psychology and Law, Faculty of Legal Psychology, MSUPE, Deputy Dean for Scientific Work.
