On October 24, staff members of the Scientific and Practical Center for Gerontopsychology at MSUPE took part in the II Conference on Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia, presenting the results of a joint project with the "Alzrus" Foundation on the application of cognitive stimulation therapy (CST) in working with elderly people suffering from dementia.

The conference brought together over 150 participants, including 32 speakers: leading specialists from Russian regions and allied countries—neurologists, psychiatrists, gerontologists, researchers, representatives of non-profit organizations, and caregivers of relatives with dementia. The work was conducted across two sections: medical and social.

The report titled "Cognitive Stimulation Therapy in Practice with Elderly People with Dementia: Results of the MSUPE – 'Alzrus' Partnership Model" was delivered by Elza Fidaevna Shakirova, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences and Head of the Center for Gerontopsychology at MSUPE, and Elena Nikolaevna Zadorina, Candidate of Psychological Sciences and Deputy Head of the Center for Practical Work.

The specialists presented the results of the practical implementation of the cognitive stimulation therapy program at the "Alzrus" Foundation, including an analysis of changes in participants' cognitive functions and health-related quality of life indicators.

Particular attention was paid to the partnership model between MSUPE and the "Alzrus" Foundation, which integrates the university's scientific and methodological developments with practical support for people with dementia and their families.

The presented research results and the practical experience of the MSUPE Center for Gerontopsychology aroused keen interest among participants of the conference's social section.

Participation in the conference provided an opportunity to present inter-organizational cooperation experience and discuss prospects for applying evidence-based non-pharmacological approaches within the care system for individuals with dementia.
